Acceptable Use Policy

This policy forms part of our Terms of Use and applies to everyone with a ThekkelSoft account. Accepting it is a condition of using the tools that alter a document’s contents — Unlock PDF, PDF Editor, Sign PDF, Watermark PDF, Add Page Numbers, Fill PDF Form and Password Protect PDF. Those tools ask you to sign in for exactly this reason: so that the undertakings below are given by someone identifiable rather than by an anonymous visitor.

The Unlock PDF tool is provided strictly as a convenience utility for users to remove passwords and permissions from documents they rightfully own or have explicit legal authorisation to modify.

You agree that you will not use this service to circumvent access controls on copyrighted materials, confidential documents, or any file for which you do not possess the required open password or the legal authority to decrypt.

The tool cannot guess, crack or recover a password you do not have, and we will not assist in obtaining one.

The PDF Editor can retype and replace text that already exists inside a document. You strictly agree not to use this service to forge, falsify, or maliciously alter legal contracts, financial records, government-issued documents, or any other instrument with the intent to deceive or commit fraud.

This includes — without limitation — invoices, receipts, bank and account statements, payslips, identity documents, certificates, academic records, licences and permits.

The Sign PDF tool draws a signature image into the page. It does not currently utilise cryptographic Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) or the PAdES standards.

We make no representations or warranties that signatures applied via this service comply with the ESIGN Act, the eIDAS Regulation, the Information Technology Act, 2000 (India), or any other electronic signature law. A signature applied here does not verify anyone’s identity, carries no certificate, and produces no tamper-evidence or audit trail.

Whether such a signature is sufficient depends on the document, the parties and the governing law — some instruments require a certified digital signature, witnessing or registration. Determining what your document requires is your responsibility, and you must sign only documents you are authorised to sign.

The service acts solely as a client-side digital utility. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ThekkelSoft and its operators from any claims, damages, or legal actions arising from your modification, decryption, or signing of documents using our tools.

You bear sole legal responsibility for the output generated using this service. Nothing in this policy limits the “as is” disclaimer or the limitation of liability set out in the Terms of Use.

There are two different things at stake here, and we keep them strictly apart.

Account data — we keep your email address, your name if you give one, your membership and payment status, and a record of your activity: which tool you opened, when, from which IP address and browser. That record exists so that misuse of the document-altering tools can be traced, and so we can answer a lawful request. It is described in full in our Privacy Policy.

Document data — the actual byte contents of your PDF files, and any passwords entered into the Unlock tool, are never uploaded to, transmitted through, or stored on our servers. We do not keep file names, document fingerprints or hashes, the text you type into a form or an edit, or the signature you draw. Every one of these tools runs inside your browser, and a Content-Security-Policy blocks the page from sending your file anywhere. We record that you used a tool, never what you did with it.

Where we reasonably believe this policy has been breached, we may deactivate the account concerned, which immediately ends any signed-in session, and we may decline to provide the service in future. Where we are legally required to do so, we may disclose the account activity record described above to a competent authority.

Because your documents never reach us, we cannot inspect what you process and we hold no copy of it. Enforcement therefore rests on this undertaking and on the account record — which is precisely why these tools require an account.

We may update this policy. Substantive changes will be published here with a revised “last updated” date, and you will be asked to accept the updated version the next time you sign in.
